About the Diesel Mechanic Position

First Transit is seeking experienced Diesel Technicians on 1st, 2nd, & 3rd shifts for the largest university bus fleet in the company. This fleet includes vehicles for the Rutgers University campus shuttle!

As an entry-level to advanced to advanced-skilled Diesel Technician with First Transit, you will set the standard for fleet maintenance capabilities with attention to detail, dependable diagnostics abilities, and superior knowledge of bus fleet repairs. In this role, you will also:

  • Assist with or perform vehicle maintenance to the First Transit standards.
  • Assist with or perform diagnosis on all phases of vehicle and equipment repair.
  • Remove clean, repair, reinstall, and adjust vehicle components (Engine Emission Components, Driveline Components, Electrical/Electronic Components, Brakes/Suspension/Steering/Exhaust, Cab/Chassis, and Hydraulics).
  • Select an appropriate course of action for repairs.
  • Move vehicles safely between job and work area.

Diesel Mechanic Qualifications

  • Vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair is preferred
  • Entry-level to advanced-level mechanical aptitude and at least 1 year or more of diesel maintenance & repair experience is required.
  • Valid drivers license
    • Ability to obtain a CDL B - We train for CDL!
  • Appropriate mechanic's toolset
  • ASE certifications are highly preferred; Paid Company training is provided!
