Nature Publishing Group seeks a
Supplements Editor for the
Academic Journals to be based in our NYC office.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the production and delivery of the supplements program for journal titles within the Academic Journals and Nature Clinical Practice portfolios; working closely with the journal editorial offices and in-house production teams to deliver the supplements programme in both print and electronic media. Because revenue generated from supplements and editorially led sponsored projects is crucial to maintaining the financial stability and growth of the non-subscription revenue for the Academic and Nature Clinical Practice journals, the Supplements Editor works with other members of the journal editorial offices and NPG’s production department to ensure delivery of the global supplements program, managing key tasks such as:
- Managing the copy flow of contracted supplements by working with partners and clients delivery requirements and production procedures, delivery of content to required schedules and quality assurance, liaising with journal editorial offices to achieve review, revision and acceptance of submitted supplements
- Managing production/client relationship through to delivery of accepted materials to production. This includes liaising between production, client, and journal editorial offices as necessary during the production process, giving feedback to production, ensuring all client deliverables are met during the production process, advising clients on any production delays and trouble-shoot any production problems.
- Maintaining accurate reporting systems by updating the master supplements and special sales spreadsheets detailing copy flow and delivery spreadsheets detailing leads and sales and reporting regularly on progress to the Publisher
- Development of internal and external relationships through managing contacts with the Journal Editorial offices and production staff and reporting back to editorial staff on production progress and delivery
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor degree and a minimum of 2 years’ publishing experience, preferably within the scientific or medical market. Also required is production experience (pre-press and manufacturing) and experience of working with both academic and commercial clients. This person will display strong communication and organizational skills, Good oral presentations — internally and externally, a customer-service orientation, strong self-management skills, strong work ethic to meet deadlines and achieve agreed goals along with a high attention to detail.
